Top 5 healthy Ramadan tips- How to stay healthy and not gain weight whilst fasting?

Happy Ramadan to all thsoe who are doing it. It’s Dr Houda here, so of course I’m going to talk about how to do it healthily!

☪️ Plan your meals: You have 2 meals 🍽 Iftar and Suhour/Sahari: Make them both healthy and balanced. Don’t overeat at Iftar and skip or not wake up for Suhoor. Also not planning suhoor and waking up too early for it, half a sleep 😴 might mean you will grab whatever naughty foods you find quickly. People who bought Baklava and are making Kunafe, and buying Zalabia and Turkish delights every day, I’m looking at you 😅

☪️ Think of it as an intermittent fasting healthy diet not a month of indulgence: What would you do in intermittent fasting? Limit eating to a certain number of hours say all meals within 8-10 hours. During the eating window, you don’t indulge in desserts 🍮 right? You eat healthy foods that release calories slowly. Post on these foods coming soon!

☪️ Stay hydrated: 8 glasses of water 💦 a day

☪️ If you have a medical condition, consult your doctor for planning if and how you could fast. Especially, in case of Diabetes or any conditions that affect metabolism or require taking regular meds.

☪️ Don’t forget Mental Health! Ramadan is a month of spiritual growth and increasing compassion and empathy for others who might not always have the means to eat well. It’s hence also an opportunity for gratitude 🙏🏼 to what we have available. Whilst your body isn’t occupied by digestion, utilise it to access your “Emotional Body” and practise gratitude, compassion, empathy with the self and others.

Happy 😃 fasting! Any questions 🙋🏻‍♂️ in the comments please 🙏🏼
